WRITING A DIARY ENTRY
A diary is a record of personal experiences. It can also record the writer's thoughts or feelings. 'A diary is a mirror which reflects your mind back to you.' - Anonymous
'Diary writing is a process of self-discovery. You learn about yourself by writing about yourself.' - Julia Cameron
Tips for writing a diary entry
➢Use first person 'l' or we' in your diary since you are communicating to yourself.
➢Write the day and date at the top of the page and time
➢Use 'Dear Diary' as a salutation.
➢Organize paragraphs with topic sentences (usually written in past tense).
➢Give a clear sense of the writer's personality and explain their feelings and changing emotions.
➢Focus on key moments or incidents in one's world.
Use time connectives like then, afterwards, earlier, finally, later that day, etc to give the time sequence.
1. Everyone grabs the memories of the first day in the new school. Write a diary entry about the first day in school, recalling experiences you have had in about 200 words. (सबैमा नयाँ विद्यालयको पहिलो दिनको सम्झना रहन्छ । २०० शब्दमा विद्यालयको पहिलो दिनको अनुभवको सम्झना गर्दै दैनिकी लेख्नुहोस् ।)

Dear Diary,
Today, I joined a new school in Bhaktapur. It was quite difficult and often frustrating to get adjusted to a new school, with new friends and new teachers. Today's my biggest struggle was to find my classroom in a huge crowd before the assembly began. In order to seek help, I went to a tall man. He showed me the classroom. Later, I knew that he was our English teacher. I found him very rich in subject knowledge. I am really grateful to him for his assistance and guidance.
The most part of the day passed with mixed feelings: both horror and fascination. The most frustrating moment was- being asked to introduce myself over and over again by every teacher. I made a few friends. Supriya, my first friend at new school and my bench partner helped me throughout the day. She is a brilliant student who often stands first in the Internal examinations. During the interval, she shared her home-made tiffin with me. As a new student, I remained quiet almost throughout the day. Meanwhile, I also felt very anxious. I really loved the instruction of the teachers, their simplicity and friendly behaviour while wearing smiles on their faces. In between, I imagined how lucky I was to be a part of such a reputed school.
Overall, my first day has been very memorable. I can't wait to see what the rest of the days bring. I hope I'll have great fun ahead. I have already begun to love the school ambience.

Dear Diary,
It was winter season. We woke up at 5 o'clock in the morning. The weather was so cold. We had a light breakfast with our teachers and friends. The team leader asked us to dress up soon. Everybody got ready with their new dress.
Today, we all went to World Peace Pagoda first and enjoyed the scenic beauty of snow- capped mountains and sunrise. When we reached there, the sun had already shone. I was so excited seeing the crowd with peace. The spectacular sunrise made our day. My friends and teachers were fascinated with the surroundings. After a couple of hours, we returned to Bindhyabasini temple and worshipped there. We made a lot of TikTok videos. We experienced inner peace and profound calmness. By the time we left the temple, the weather was incredible and clear. It was full of fun and frolic.
Soon, our group headed to the lodge and had our lunch. Then, our team moved towards the Fewa Lake for boating. I was much excited to be above the water. We had the scariest boating experience as wind was blowing. In spite of bad weather, everybody enjoyed evening boating: We got opportunity to visit Taal Barahi temple located in the middle of water. It was already dusk. So, we got back to our lodge. As soon as we reached the lodge, campfire was already set up. And we enjoyed a lot. It was a great day and my friends and I enjoyed it a lot. I hope we will return home collecting lots of memories.

3. Imagine you got 4.0 GPA in the first term exam. Your school organized prize distribution ceremony on the occasion of Children's Day. You were awarded with medals and a certificate of merit. Write a diary entry mentioning the feelings and experiences of being honoured in the programme.

Dear Diary,
Yesterday was an extraordinary day for me as I experienced an overwhelming sense of happiness and pride. It was the much awaited moment for me. The school organized the Children's Day with prize distribution ceremony. I reached school in time. The stage was all set and dignitaries were joining the programme. Many students were awarded with different prizes. And, I'was honoured with medals, and the certificates of merit as I obtained 4.0 GPA in the first examination. It was an incredibly awesome experience to be recognized in front of the entire school family.
Our English teacher announced my name first. He spoke words of praise for my dedication and hard work. It was truly heartwarming to hear such kind words acknowledging my efforts. As I climbed onto the stage to collect my award, a rush of emotions flooded through me.
It was a new experience for me to receive the honour. I kissed the medal and jumped with joy. My friends joined me to double my happiness. I felt blessed to have such wonderful friends. In the evening, my parents also celebrated the precious moment.
The certificate served as a tangible reminder of my achievements and motivated me to continue my academic journey. The recognition I received has encouraged me to reach out height of success in the days to come. I am grateful to my school for honour. It has been an incredible journey, and I am excited to see where it takes me next.
As I write these words, I am filled with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. I am grateful to every teacher whose untiring efforts made all this possible.
Until next time,
Sujal Lama
