DEVELOPING A SKELETON STORY
Tips to write a skeleton story
➣Read the outlines of story carefully and get its meaning:
➣The outline sometimes may not be in an order. So, connect the points logically.
➣We simply use past tense while developing a story. Students need to present the story in an interesting way using meaningful sentences, phrases and words.
➣Such stories are generally started with the expressions like: Once upon a time/Many years ago/Once there was/were
➣Give an appropriate title in the beginning and a moral at the end.
Below are some examples which are very very important in your examinations of English!
1. Develop a readable story using the following outlines. (तल दिइएका रूपरेखा तथा सङ्केतको प्रयोग गरी एक पठनीय कथा तयार गर्नुहोस् ।)
A farmer has a goose lays a golden egg daily becomes very rich wants to become the richest man of the world.......... kills the goose in order to get all the golden eggs.......... lose the goose as well as golden eggs........... moral.

A Greedy Farmer
Once there lived a farmer who had an amazing goose. The goose laid a golden egg every day. He used to worship the goose and feed nutritious food. He was very happy as he was becoming a very rich man because of the divine goose. Soon, he became very impatient and did not want to wait any longer to become the richest man in the world instantly. He had a dream that he would be the richest man because of the gifted goose. Therefore, he thought of an instant growing rich plan. There and then he caught hold of his dearest goose and stabbed a sharp knife. He butchered it in one stroke. The poor creature gave a long outcry and died. Now, the farmer opened its belly to get all the golden eggs instantly. Unfortunately, he got nothing. He cursed himself and his lust for gold and wealth. What he got was only flesh, bones and blood of the goose. Moral: One who desires more, loses all. We should remain satisfied with what we get.
2. Write a readable story in about 100 words using the outlines given below. (दिएका रूपरेखा प्रयोग गरी कम्तीमा १०० शब्दमा एक पठनीय कथा तयार गर्नुहोस् ।)
A little boy loves caterpillars sees a cocoon a young caterpillar struggles to come out- trying to break the cocoon hard to get out-boy feels sympathetic decides to help making bigger hole - butterfly emerges - butterfly flies some minutes - falls - dies -early release-moral.

Life is Struggle
There was a little boy who loved caterpillars. One day, he found one and took him home. He watched the caterpillar every day making sure he had plenty of food & water. The caterpillar started creating a cocoon. After few days, a small hole appeared in the cocoon and a young butterfly started to struggle to come out. He was trying to break the cocoon to come out of it. He noticed the butterfly struggling to get out and it looked like the butterfly wasn't going to be able to break. The little boy was watching all the developments closely. The little boy was so worried for the butterfly that he decided to help.
He could not wait to see the butterfly. He quickly got a pair of scissors and cut the cocoon to make the hole bigger. Finally, the butterfly quickly emerged. He saw the butterfly had a swollen body and small wings. The butterfly flew around some minutes but it didn't last for a long time. He fell down on the ground and after few minutes, he died.
He then learned that the butterfly was supposed to struggle. In fact, the butterfly's struggle to push its way through the tiny opening of the cocoon ensures his life. He thought early release was the cause of his death. Without the struggle, the butterfly would never, ever fly.
Moral: The struggle makes us stronger.

A Stupid Ass
Once upon a time, there was a silly ass who was fond of lion's skin. One day, it thought to have a fun. So, the ass wore the lion's skin to be like a lion. Then it began to frighten the villagers who had been residing nearby a wood. People thought it was really a lion entered into a village. They were afraid of it. Due to the danger of the lion, they began to shut up their houses. No one ventured to come out from their houses. The ass was jumping with joy seeing the villagers' behaviour as it was able to have fun. The villagers were so much bored and angry. They started to plot to get rid of the fearful situation. Soon, a bold and fearless villager decided to come out to combat with the so-called lion. One day, he came out and went straight to the nearby pond where he met it and fought. Few of the villagers also joined him. When he kicked it, the skin of ass slipped off. The villagers recognized it was not a lion but an ass. They flogged ass with knot severely.
Moral: Stupidity harms oneself.

The Fox and the Grapes
Once upon a time, a fox lived near a garden. He got nothing to eat for many days. So, he tried his luck in the garden. Immediately, the fox spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them. The bunch hung from a high branch, and he had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So, he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but all went in vain. Now, he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust. "What a fool I am," he said. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for." And off he walked very, very scornfully.
Moral: A bag carpenter quarrels with his tools.

Woodcutter and his Axe
Many years ago, there lived a woodcutter in a village. Although he was poor, he had a strong faith in God and blessings of hard work. He sustained his livelihood cutting and selling wood in the town. He used to work day and night to join hands and mouth together. One day, he was cutting a tree growing on the steep hill nearby a river. Unfortunately, the axe slipped from his hands and fell into the thundering current of the river. The axe was the only the source of his bread and butter. This unbearable loss was a bolt from the blue for him. He started weeping bitterly sitting at the edge of the river. He cursed his own fate.
Meanwhile, an angel happened to pass there. She saw the woodcutter weeping and praying to the God. The angel was deeply moved by the miserable condition of the woodcutter. She approached the woodcutter and asked the reason of his sorrow. The woodcutter sobbed out the entire story. He requested the angel to help him as he was the sole breadwinner of his family. The angel felt sorry for the woodcutter and assured him of her help. The angel dived into the river in order to find out the lost axe. She appeared from the water with a golden axe. But the woodcutter refused to get it saying that it was not his axe.
Angel dived into the water for the second time. Now, she appeared with an axe that was made of silver. The poor woodcutter was still sad. He shook his head still harder and begged to find out own axe that was made of iron.
The third time the angel came out of the water with an iron axe in her hand. Beaming with joy, the woodcutter cried on the top of his voice, "This axe belongs to me." He thanked the angel for helping him. The angel was greatly impressed by his honesty. She handed the woodcutter all the three axes as a reward of his honesty..

A Brave Little Parrot
Long ago, a little grey parrot lived in a dense green forest. She was a happy bird, and loved to fly. One day, a dark storm hovered over the forest. It was a stormy time. There was a big thunder and lightning. The lightning struck an old dead tree. Soon the forest caught fire.
The parrot, smelling smoke, flapped her wings and rose up. As she flew, she cried out, "Fire! Fire! Run! Run to the river!" She flew to the river and dipped her body and wings in the cool water. Then she flew back over the raging fire.
Suddenly, an eagle appeared and said, "Stop, little parrot! Turn back before it's too late. Turn back and save yourself, lest you will fall into the flames!" But the little parrot only panted, "I don't need such advice. All I need is help!" And she flew. Seeing the parrot's deed, the eagle realized how great the parrot's opinion was, so he also joined in. After a while, all the birds joined the parrot and the eagle. They extinguished the forest fire. All the creatures praised the parrot and other birds for their great patience and heroic deed.
Moral: Nothing is impossible to accomplish if you devote yourself to work.

Once upon a time, there was an old cat. The cat had no food at all and was very hungry. That is why it made a plan to trap rats for his food. The cat wore a garland of flowers and rang the bell that drew the attention of the rats as they heard the sound. The rats started to follow the sound and came to him. As they came, they found that the cat kept his eyes shut up. The rats told the cat it harmed them. But he said that he no longer committed any crime because he was the devotee of the Almighty God. The entire rat trusted him and started walking freely. The number of the rats decreased slowly day by day.
Moral: If horse develops friendship with grass, how it survives.

The Two Friends in the Jungle
Once there were two friends who went to a jungle. As they were walking along the path in the lonely jungle, they happened to see a bear coming from opposite direction. They frightened a lot and tried to save their life but there was no any way out. One of the friends was good at climbing tree well. So, he hurriedly saved himself climbing a tree. The other could do that and had no any option. He hurriedly slept and acted as if he was dead. The bear came close to him and breathed in. The bear continued its journey leaving him on the way sleeping. The friend in the tree climbed down and asked, "What did the bear say?" and he answered "Beware, of the selfish friends."
Moral: Beware of the selfish friend.

"I will reward you very handsomely," ....... "if you pull that bone out for me...... she did what the Wolf asked the Wolf felt that the bone was gone, he started to walk away ........ "But what about my reward!" "Haven't you got it? ........ "I let you take your head out of my mouth without snapping it off?"

Once upon a time, a Wolf had been feasting too greedily, and a bone had stuck across his throat. He could get it neither up nor down, and of course, they could eat a nothing. Obviously that was an awful state of affairs for a greedy Wolf. Right away, he hurried to the Crane. He was sure that she, with her long neck and bill, would easily be able to reach the bone and pull it out. "I will reward you very handsomely," said the Wolf, "If you pull that bone out for me." The Crane, as you can imagine, was very urieasy about putting her head inga Wolf's throat. But she was grasping in nature, so she did what the Wolf asked her to do. When the Wolf felt that the bone was gone, he started to walk away. "But what about my reward!" called the Crane anxiously. "What I" snarled the Wolf, whirling around. "Haven't you got it? Isn't it enough that I let you take your head out of my mouth without snapping it off?"
Moral: Expect no reward for serving the wicked.

The Bat's Dilemma
Long long ago, in a lush forest, a great conflict arose between the birds and the beasts. Two mighty armies gathered, preparing for a fierce battle. Amidst the tension, the bat found himself torn between the two sides. The beasts invited him to join their ranks, but he refused, claiming he was a bird. Likewise, the birds offered him a place among them, but he insisted he was a beast. Unable to find his place, the bat chose to remain neutral as a gesture of peace.
When peace was finally declared, both armies rejoiced, but the bat felt left out. He wished to join in the celebrations, but as soon as he tried, the birds and beasts turned against him, threatening to tear him apart for his earlier indecision. Frightened and hurt, the bat flew away, learning a valuable message.
Moral: Trying to please everyone can lead to rejection.
