1. Read the following poem and write 'TRUE' for true and 'FALSE' for false statements. 5x1=5
This is the weather the cuckoo likes,
And so do I;
When showers betumble the chestnut spikes,
And nestlings fly;
And the little brown nightingale bills his best,
And they sit outside at 'The Traveller's Rest',
And maids come forth sprig-muslin drest,
And citizens dream of the south and west,
And so do I.
This is the weather the shepherd shuns,
And so do I;
When beeches drip in browns and duns,
And thresh and ply;
And hill-hid tides throb, throe on throe,
And meadow rivulets overflow,
And drops on gate bars hang in a row,
And rooks in families homeward go,
And so do I.
— Thomas Hardy

The gods brought Pelops back to life. As a special present, they gave him a chariot with a team of snow-white horses that could run faster than the wind. "Take these horses," said Zeus to Pelops, "and find yourself a kingdom, for you shall become a great ruler." Pelops thanked the gods and mounted his chariot and galloped down the dusty mountain road and out onto the plain. As he came around a curve, he reined in his horses, for he saw an old man dressed in rags by the side of the road. "Where are you going?" shouted the old man. "I'm off to find a kingdom," Pelops replied. "Then I have an idea for you," said the old man. "I know of a kingdom called Elis, where a beautiful princess lives. Her name is Hippodamia. The man who married the princess will inherit her father's kingdom." "That sounds perfect," said Pelops. "There's just one problem," cautioned the old man. "If you want to marry the princess, you have to run a chariot race against the old king. If you win, you get the princess and the kingdom. If you lose, you get your head chopped off. So far, twelve people have lost." "I won't lose," said Pelops. "My horses can run faster than the wind." "But the king's can run faster than the lightning," warned the old man. "I am not afraid," said Pelops. He thanked the old man and started off.

8. Migration of many students and professionals abroad every year has caused a number of problems in the economy of Nepal. Write an essay on "Migration of Nepali Students and Professionals Abroad" expressing your opinions on its causes and effects in about 200 words (8)
Migration of Nepali Students and Professionals Abroad
Migration of Nepali students and professionals abroad has become a common trend in recent years. Every year, thousands of young people leave Nepal to study or work in countries like the USA, Australia, Canada, and the Gulf nations. While this migration offers opportunities for individuals to improve their lives, it has created several challenges for Nepal, especially for its economy. The growing number of people leaving the country has raised concerns about the future of Nepal’s development. In this essay, I will discuss the causes of this migration, its effects on Nepal’s economy, and some possible solutions to address this issue.
One of the main reasons for migration is the lack of opportunities in Nepal. Many students and professionals feel that there are not enough good jobs in the country. For example, even after completing higher education, many graduates struggle to find work that matches their skills or pays well. In contrast, foreign countries offer better salaries, advanced education systems, and modern facilities, which attract Nepali youth. Additionally, the education system in Nepal often lacks quality, especially in rural areas, pushing students to seek better learning opportunities abroad. Political instability and lack of security also play a big role in encouraging people to leave. For instance, frequent strikes and protests make it hard for businesses to grow, leaving fewer job options for skilled workers.
The effects of this migration on Nepal’s economy are both positive and negative, but the negatives often outweigh the positives. On one hand, Nepalis working abroad send money back home, known as remittances, which help their families buy food, pay for education, and build houses. This money also supports the national economy to some extent. However, the negative effects are more serious. When talented students and professionals leave, Nepal loses its skilled workforce, a problem called "brain drain." For example, doctors, engineers, and teachers who could help develop the country are now working in other nations. This makes it harder for Nepal to grow its industries, improve healthcare, and strengthen education. Over time, the country becomes dependent on foreign countries for skilled workers, which slows down its progress.
Migration also has social and cultural effects that indirectly impact the economy. When young people leave, families are separated, and many children grow up without their parents. This can lead to emotional stress and a lack of guidance for the younger generation. Additionally, as more Nepalis adopt foreign lifestyles, traditional Nepali culture and values may fade away. For example, festivals and customs that were once celebrated widely might lose their importance. This cultural loss can weaken the sense of unity in communities, which is important for a country’s overall development. Moreover, the money sent back as remittances is often spent on daily needs rather than invested in businesses or projects that could create jobs, further limiting economic growth.
In conclusion, the migration of Nepali students and professionals abroad is a serious issue that affects the country’s economy and society. While it brings some benefits like remittances, the loss of talent and cultural values creates bigger challenges. The lack of jobs, poor education, and political issues are the main reasons for this migration. However, with the right efforts, such as creating jobs, improving education, and ensuring stability, Nepal can encourage its youth to stay and contribute to the nation’s growth. It is time for Nepal to focus on keeping its talent at home to build a brighter future for everyone.
